It's important to recognize the impact that PMDD can have on one's emotional and mental state, and how it can influence decision-making. Making major decisions during a PMDD episode can be problematic for several reasons: Mood Instability and Emotional Fluctuations: PMDD is characterized by intense mood swings, heightened emotional sensitivity, irritability, and feelings of sadness or hopelessness. These emotional fluctuations can impair your ability to think clearly and make rational decisions. Impaired Judgment: The emotional and cognitive symptoms associated with PMDD can impair your judgment and lead to impulsive decision-making. You may not fully consider the consequences or evaluate the situation objectively. Negative Perceptions and Cognitive Distortions: PMDD can distort your perceptions of reality, making situations appear more negative or dire than they actually are. Today I am chatting with Dr. Tara Scott about functional medicine, the side effects of antidepressants, the side effects of having a hysterectomy and much more! SCOTT, MD, FACOG, FAAFM, ABOIM, CNMP Fellow of American College of OB/GYN; Advanced Fellow and certified in Anti-aging, Regenerative, and Functional Medicine; Board Certified, American Board of Integrative Medicine, Certified Menopause Practitioner through the North American Menopause Society; Clinical Associate Professor of OB/GYN at Northeast Ohio Medical University; Chief Medical Officer, Revitalize Medical Group, Medical Director of Integrative Medicine at Summa Health Systems. Dr. Tara Scott graduated from Northeast Ohio University College of Medicine and completed her residency with Summa Health Systems at Akron City Hospital in Ohio. She recently "retired" from OB/GYN after almost 20 years to focus on functional and integrative medicine. She is an Associate Clinical Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University, where she teaches OB/GYN residents. Dr. Scott is a certified menopause practitioner with the North American Menopause Society and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She first became involved with hormone and integrative medicine while practicing as an OB/GYN. Her empathy for patients experiencing hormone-related issues led her to become trained as an advanced fellow and certified by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. The evidence-based practices she employed helped many patients conquer chronic wellness issues. She then started Revitalize Medical Group, where she serves as the Chief Medical Officer. In 2016 she obtained an additional board certification in Integrative Medicine. Dr. Scott is passionate about educating the medical community on the advances in evidence-based hormone therapy. She lectures around the community to raise awareness about wellness and hormone balance. She recently got appointed as Medical Director for Summa Health in Akron, OH where she will develop and run and Integrative Medicine program. On today's show, I am chatting with Jess Whetsel. Can I tell you, I freaking love her and I know you will too! Jess Whetsel is a yogi, a social worker, and a writer based in Denver, Colorado, where she lives with her partner and their three cats. After years of struggling with perfectionism, the depression, and anxiety that go along with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a mindlessly busy lifestyle, and her body image, Jess finally found the healing nature of yoga, mindfulness, and Ayurveda. She committed to learning and growing through this powerful trio of ancient wisdom, and found that her life began to blossom and open up in ways she had never imagined was possible. She became a certified yoga teacher in the summer of 2018 through Kindness Yoga, and in the future, she wants to become an Ayurvedic health coach so she can work with other women and femme-identified folks who are also struggling with premenstrual disorders. Jess shares her PMDD journey, her role in the PMDD community and her decision to ditch the antidepressant to treat her PMDD holistically. If you have PMDD work can be extremely difficult during those two hell weeks. Trust me, I get it. I can't tell you how many jobs I quit when my PMDD was at it's prime. Today's guest, Eleanor, is going to give you some strategies to help make your work week easier during your one or two hell weeks. Heres the 411 on Eleanor: Eleanor Thorne MSc, MBPSs, MABP Eleanor is passionate about well-being in the workplace and has specialist knowledge in women's health at work. She has published scientific articles on the topic of the menopause in the workplace and has recently conducted research in the area of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) in the workplace. She is a Business Psychologist with Masters Degrees in both Occupational Psychology from Goldsmiths University and Health Psychology from King's College London. Eleanor's background is in both HR and academia gives her the ability to approach organizational challenges from both an evidence-based and practical business perspective. Eleanor is the founder of Example Coaching and Consulting. She is a certified coach and uses a compassionate, non-judgemental and supportive approach whilst challenging clients when it is needed to help them fulfill their goals and achieve the success they want. Example Coaching and Consulting offers Health and Wellbeing Coaching, Performance Coaching, workplace training, and research in women’s health at work.
