In this episode we explore the thought you are telling yourself on repeat in some form or another, alcohol is a problem, I've got a problem, there's a problem! This ONE thought is compounding your desire to drink.
Today I pose the question, what if the only problem is you thinking there is one?
Oftentimes, the bigger problem lies in our own perception rather than in the alcohol itself.

Here are the key points discussed in the episode:

  1. Challenging the notion of alcohol as a problem.
  2. Polarized views and societal expectations: The episode highlights the black-and-white thinking prevalent in society, where individuals are categorized as either "normal" or "alcoholic" drinkers. This binary approach fails to account for the complexity of people's relationships with alcohol.
  3. Unseen struggles and hidden behaviors: many individuals who drink regularly may be addicted to alcohol and face personal challenges that are not immediately apparent to others.
  4. The power of self-perception: the impact of labeling alcohol consumption as a problem and suggests reframing it as a desire for a different outcome. Shifting the focus to seeking new results can be empowering and inspiring.
  5. The conditioning and association of alcohol: the conditioning of the brain and the association of alcohol with positive emotions, celebrations, and various experiences. This conditioning contributes to the difficulty of making changes in one's relationship with alcohol.

The episode also touches on topics such as the biological response to alcohol, the importance of good sleep for regulating the nervous system, and the transformative journey of going beyond alcohol. It encourages listeners to embrace the liminal space, where personal growth and self-discovery occur, and to recognize that emotions are temporary and cannot harm them.

Focus on the life you are moving towards, not the life you are moving away from. End the moderation and deprivation cycle for good when you eliminate your desire to drink.
