Breaking the Stereotype with Becky Scott
Manage episode 361837700 series 3471022
Today I'm interviewing one of my favs, Becky Scott. *
She is the Creator and Instructor at @missfitsworkout, an award winning dance based exercise for those who don't feel at home in the gym.
She offers classes that are intentionally different from the mainstream and is breaking stereotypes left, right and centre and promoting joy in movement.
She is also studying for her masters in Exercise Psychology so that she can contribute to the research which is currently sparse around weight bias and being "fit while fat" and is a director at @FPAWS - Fitness Professionals Against Weight Stigma. Phew!
Becky says“I'm fat, I'm anti diet culture and pro fat acceptance. I feel very strongly that it's time the fitness industry separated itself from the diet industry in order to better serve us all.
We talk about weight stigma in the fitness industry, the true meaning of a healthy relationship with food and exercise, intuitive eating, movement and more.
We try and talk about Becky's "journey" without using the word "journey"; and get into the sometimes sticky topics of thin privilege when it comes to fit pros in the non-diet space.
Becky has been making waves for quite some time and I'm so excited to follow her as she continues to gain momentum and take up more space in this often toxic fitness space.
You can find out more about Becky's classes here.
Or find her on Instagram or Facebook.
(*Becky and I both teach classes on Kim Stacey's Body Image Fitness platform so check it out if you'd like to know more.)
