Backstories help the reader understand current situations and Scout does a wonderful job at interweaving these into his story. I have since read the book. Honestly, it reads like a book of fiction even knowing the truth behind it. In the past, I have read plenty of PCT books, but this one stands out as completely capturing the culture of the trail and those who hike it.
