×In this solocast I talk about how being a fixer can be detrimental in some relationship dynamics. The idea of “stop being a fixer” in relationships refers to avoiding the role of trying to change, rescue, or “fix” your partners behaviors, emotions, or life circumstances. The mindset often stems from well-meaning desire to help but can lead to unhealthy dynamics. In this solocast I talk about how focusing on your primary relationship to create a ripple effect of thriving in other areas of your life is about nurturing that bond with intention, presence, and care. By tending to your primary relationship with intentional acts, you're building a foundation of love and trust that makes everything else feel possible. That is why relationships can be viewed as a spiritual path. It can be a beautiful, messy, and deeply transformative journey—one that mirrors a quest for meaning, connection, and growth at the heart of spirituality. Emma Olyff is passionate about artistry, personal development, and spiritual practices. Eight years ago, she founded Emwa Jewelry, a high-end brand where she creates collections, custom designs, and leads workshops. Alongside her work as a jewelry artist, she has also become a business coach. In both fields, she weaves together embodiment, practical tools, and spiritual wisdom—offering a grounded, holistic approach to creation and growth. I am so so grateful to have her in my life as my Daughter-in-love. In this episode, Emma and I have a conversation about emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence (EI) in relationships refers to the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one's own emotions while also being attuned to and empathetic toward a partner's feelings. It’s a critical factor in building and maintaining healthy, fulfilling relationships. Some of the key factors of emotional intelligence that we discuss are self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, social skills, motivation, trust, and safety, to name a few. In this solocast I talk about how you get what you expect in relationships. Expectations in relationships are a double-edged sword because they can both guide and undermine connection. On one hand, clear expectations set standards for respect, communication, and mutual effort, creating a framework for trust and stability. For example, expecting honesty or support fosters accountability and helps partners align their actions. On the other hand, unrealistic or unspoken expectations can breed resentment and misunderstanding. I emphasize how having positive expectations of your partner and relationship is actually a good thing! Corey Costanzo is the Co-Owner of Asheville’s Still Point Wellness Spa, a licensed addiction counselor, trauma specialist, licensed massage therapist, master didgeridoo player, colleague, and my good friend. In this episode, Corey and I have a conversation about mind reading. Mind reading is a cognitive distortion where individuals believe they can accurately guess or know what others are thinking or feeling without direct communication. In relationships, this often involves making assumptions about a partner's thoughts, feelings, or intentions based on minimal or ambiguous cues. Attunement is different than mind reading, which we elaborate on. Yvonne Rainbow Teplitsky is the founder of Artsy Goddess Studio, where she actively carries out her role in helping others and the planet heal. Rainbow is passionate about art, as seen in the upcycled clothing she creates from second-hand materials, as well as the visual arts she creates, such as murals, paintings, and tapestries. She also helps women transform through voice-empowering workshops, and she co-facilitates couples retreats and workshops with me. Not losing yourself in a relationship is about maintaining your autonomy, self-worth, and unique identity while building a shared life with someone. It’s the art of “we” without letting the “me” fade away. In this solocast I talk about asking for what we want and need in our relationships. It can be tricky, but it’s about clear communication and mutual respect. It’s also about building a dynamic where both of you feel safe, heard, and willing to stretch for each other. The deep wants always have a “root,” and it is very good to identify it. In this solocast I talk about the different types of problems or issues that come up in our relationships: perpetual (or unresolvable) vs. solvable ones. The key to relationship success is not eliminating perpetual problems (which is impossible), but rather learning to navigate them with respect and humor while effectively resolving the ones that can be solved. In this solocast I talk about the ways stubbornness shows up in our relationships and how detrimental it can be to the flow of connection and harmony. Stubbornness can indeed poison relationships by creating a toxic environment where one or both partners feel the need to always be right, leading to conflicts and a lack of mutual respect. In a relationship, stubbornness can manifest as an inability to admit when one is wrong or to compromise, which can escalate minor issues into major conflicts. In this solocast I talk about my recent experience and observations during Hurricane Helene’s devastation that hit Western North Carolina and the Southeast. For those of you not local, Hurricane Helene swept through the Appalachian mountains, bringing two days of relentless rain (32 inches at my house) and strong winds. The storm saturated the earth, causing historic flooding and leaving unimaginable damage and devastation in its wake. Since September 29th, the destruction of our community has left many devasted with unimaginable loss. In the wake of this tragedy, there was and is beauty. The beauty of communities far and wide coming to aid and help one another. It has been so heartwarming to see humans helping other humans so selflessly. It solidified my deep belief in creating and fostering good, close, and caring relationships within our communities and neighborhoods. We need to have eachothers' back! In this solocast I talk about the importance of following through on commitments. It’s basically keeping your word. If you say you'll do something, do it. Whether it's taking out the trash, meeting your partner for dinner, or attending their work event, follow through reliably. The key is consistently matching your actions with your words. Follow-through breeds trust and reliability in relationships. Essentially, partners who do what they say they'll do don't just gain trust; they earn it. Their actions give evidence that they are worthy of trust. This firm foundation is key for relationships to go the distance. “ Only make commitments you know you can reasonably keep. Don't say yes to everything. ” - Pripo Teplitsky Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes HeartShare: Attitudes of Connection HeartShare: How Practicing Humility Helps Your Relatiopnships Compromising in a Relationship HeartShare: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Relationships How to Have the Partner You Most Want to Have Micro-Moments in Relationships Let’s Talk About It! In this episode, I have a conversation with my friend Gregg Levoy and we dive into this topic. Gregg is a frequent seminar leader who holds workshops in the faith-based, human-potential, educational, governmental, and business industries. He is a Passionate Living Expert who has penned bestselling books such as Vital Signs: The Nature and Nurture of Passion as well as Callings: Finding and Following An Authentic Life which has been named as one of the Top 20 Career Publications by the Workforce Information Group. He regularly shares his insights and expertise as a frequent contributor to Psychology Today. Asking for help is not an easy task, especially because it elicits vulnerability. Many people have a difficult time asking for help because they don’t want to appear weak, put others out, seem inadequate, or fear it may be used against them at a later date. How good are you at asking for help? “You’re not weak or lazy; everyone needs support.” - Gregg Levoy Related Content: Other Podcasts with Gregg Levoy: Defensiveness Circling: A Powerful Communication Tool New Love...Taking Risks To Be Real The Loss of Touch What is a Generous Conversation Connect with Gregg Levoy: Gregg Levoy website Gregg Levoy on Facebook Let’s Talk About It! Relationships Let's Talk About It!

In this solocast I talk about the importance of consciously being aware of the kind of attitude you are putting out and understanding how it influences the quality of connection you want. The focus of a positive and heartfelt attitude of connection helps ease conflict and foster trust and love. This connection is a choice. What do you choose? “small gestures do wonders to build an attitude of connection." ~Pripo Teplitsky Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes HeartShare: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Relationships How to Have the Partner You Most Want to Have Micro-Moments in Relationships Body Awareness Can Help Us Relate Let’s Talk About It! n this episode I have a conversation with my wife, Yvonne Rainbow Teplitsky. She is the founder of Artsy Goddess Studio, where she actively carries out her role in helping others and the planet heal. Rainbow is passionate about art, as seen in the upcycled clothing she creates from second-hand materials, as well as the visual arts she creates, such as murals, paintings, and tapestries. She also helps women transform through voice empowering workshops and helps couples through workshops and retreats that she co-facilitates with me. The longing to be seen, heard and considered is normal and vital. But if you don’t feel heard or understood by your partner (or vice-versa), chances are, neither you nor your partner are really present to each other as much as you could be. We don’t want others necessarily to agree with all our feelings, but what we crave is that they at least validate them. Rainbow and I talk about how this shows up in our relationship. “The best way to understand people is to listen to them” - Yvonne Rainbow Teplitsky Related Podcasts: Giving Your Partner the Benefit of the Doubt Repair is Key to a Successful Relationship Aftermath of a Fight or a Regrettable Incident The Importance of Apologies The Art of Apology Maintaining Connection Through Conflict Let’s Talk About It! Corey Costanzo is the co-owner of Asheville’s Still Point Wellness Spa, a licensed addiction counselor, trauma specialist, licensed massage therapist, master didgeridoo player, colleague, and good friend. In this episode, Corey and I have a conversation about how trauma effects relationships. Living through traumatic events may result in expectations of danger, betrayal, or potential harm within new or old relationships. People who experience trauma may become anxious or frightened in relation to others, experience them as having power or control, or easily feel abandoned or rejected. Still, others may become overprotective or dependent. Though it’s challenging, you can heal the trauma and change the effect it has on your life and relationships. “ We are not made the same, and we all heal in our own way, our own time." In this solocast I talk about humility and being humble. To be humble or practice humility means to value other people and their opinions without indulging in self-pride. It's the opposite of arrogance, boastfulness and vanity. A humble person does not always have to prove their point, be right, or lead the conversation because they are truly comfortable with who they are. Being vulnerable and showing humility to a romantic partner can allow for better communication and trust to develop in the relationship. “Humble partners are more likely to apologize readily and accept an apology with grace.” - ~Pripo Teplitsky Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes HeartShare: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Relationships How to Have the Partner You Most Want to Have Micro-Moments in Relationships Body Awareness Can Help Us Relate Let’s Talk About It!
