Mindfulness can be a learned way of being that creates spaciousness in a healer’s life.

In this episode we share the concept of building a scaffold of mindfulness as taught in Dr. Liang’s Mindful Physician course. From her journey through her own burnout and cancer experience, she could not wait for the system to change. Her suffering became a catalyst for practicing and teaching mindfulness as a way to build her own “mindful scaffold of support.”

Reflection Questions offered in this episode:

What could the practice of medicine feel like if you had a scaffold of mindfulness supporting you?

What if you embodied mindfulness, and in practicing it noticed spaciousness in your life?

How could you be the change that you want to see in healthcare?

What if practicing mindfulness enabled you to live your passion, including your love for the practice of medicine?

Dr. Liang offers a “Pre-Shift” Mindfulness Practice as the mindful moment for this episode. It is a practice specifically created for healers about to report for an inpatient shift or a busy day at the clinic.

**The phrase “Reclaiming my time” was made popular by California Congresswoman Maxine Waters when she repeatedly stated it during a hearing in 2017. Congresswoman Waters using this phrase is what inspired Dr. Liang to galvanize healers to reclaim our time, and is an inspiration for her e-workbook.
