[Episode 26] Things I wish I knew sooner about healing trauma!
Manage episode 342615102 series 2972255
10 years ago, the healing industry looked a lot different than it does today.
Coaches, Therapists, Counselors, and Healers weren’t doing the unapologetic work we are now. They weren’t even calling themselves “therapists.” Matter of fact, when I first announced I was going into the counseling field, many in my community thought addressing trauma was absurd! Just shake it off, push thru, and "snap into a slim jim" with toes in your sand. The idea that "our personal business" from the past, could affect our present if unaddressed, was a joke to many!
I got laughed at.
But fast forward 10 years, COVID, social unrest, and isolation forced us to go within, and this industry has grown and flourished into a space where people are proud to call themselves healers of trauma, and they can make a huge impact doing so.
Join this episode and this impact in conversation with Petra and I!

More about Petra:
As a social worker, I believe that each individual has the innate capacity to heal already within them. I see my role as a therapist, as creating a space with you that is brave, non-judgmental, open-minded, culturally responsive, intersectional, anti-racist, and LGBTQ-affirmative. My background in community organizing and my identity as a Queer, Black Puerto Rican cis-woman who is bilingual in English and Spanish have a strong influence in my practice. In my work, I bring together evidence-based techniques, a social justice lens, and a trauma-informed focus. Together, we will delve into the impacts of power, privilege, and oppression, family history and dynamics, relationships (both platonic and romantic) as well as your inner world. We do this to unlearn harmful beliefs, deepen your inner knowing and self-trust, and explore tools and strategies to cultivate a life filled with more joy, freedom, agency, and hope.
