Russia´s full scale invasion of Ukraine of February 2022 marks the end of the post-wall era that started in 1989/1991. Great Power competition, geopolitics and violent 20th Century land-war strategies are back on the European agenda.

This episode features Mary Sarotte, one of the internationally most renown historians of the post-Cold War period.

1,5 years into the Russian war in Ukraine, she discusses the main turning points in the relationship between Russia and NATO, missed opportunities to integrate Ukraine into the Western security architecture and also proposes a new term that reaches beyond the era of Zeitenwende. In conversation with Gabriele Woidelko.
