Despite that, he keeps pushing through until he falls... then he picks himself up and pushes through again. Sexually molested as a child, Derrick chose a life in the Canadian Armed Forces to get away from his hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick. Though he never deployed to a combat zone, he survived trauma in the military when he was once again sexually assaulted by his brothers in arms.
