Art McCoy, Ph.D., began his career as a trailblazing mathematics teacher in the Rockwood School District after graduating Magna Cum Laude with a bachelors at age 19, reportedly as the youngest certified teacher in Missouri. After earning his Master’s in Education, he served as a principal from age 22 to 25. After receiving a Doctor of Philosophy, he was named Pattonville’s K-12 Gifted Director at age 25. In December 2010, Dr. McCoy became the youngest and first African-American Superintendent of Ferguson-Florissant School District at age 33 and a leader for Harvard’s Pathways to Prosperity. Over three decades, he has led over 20,000 staff, over 1 million students across the US, and supported thousands of students and educators in Canada, Kenya, and United Arab Emirates. Under his leadership, Jennings School District achieved multiple years of 100% graduation, college, and career placement. As a Johns Hopkins University Certified Contact Tracer, Dr. McCoy has the first to reopen schools for in-person learning in St. Louis, Missouri in 2020 and he advised 1200+ schools worldwide to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic. In July 2021, Dr. McCoy became, by unanimous board approval, Jennings’ first Superintendent Emeritus, SLU Distinguish Fellow, and the STL.works Leader. He has served on 30+ non-profit and for-profit boards. He raised over $20 million for innovative programs in STEAM, workforce development, diversity-inclusion- equity, mental health and wellness. He produced two school-based health clinics, homeless shelters, grocery store food hubs, and school-based centers for healing engagement with Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.
