The talents of these oracles were often feared but also widely respected and access to them was guarded, in many places, only the priests, the wise men or even the ruling class had the privilege to consult the appropriate oracle. Whoever had "reliable" information about the future, could use it to his advantage and thus sometimes be a decisive step ahead of the rival.
