Dr. Dean Ornish is a distinguished American physician, researcher, and advocate for preventing and reversing heart disease through lifestyle changes. He's the president and founder of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Ornish's approach combines a plant-based diet, exercise, stress management, and support groups, with his "Program for Reversing Heart Disease" gaining insurance reimbursement. He's worked with Medicare to create intensive cardiac rehabilitation programs and has advised both former President Bill Clinton and former President Barack Obama. Ornish's diet, known as the "Ornish diet," emphasizes plant-based eating and has been authorized by Medicare.
