Discussing the Hope Squad: a Peer-to-Peer Support System in Schools that Saves Lives with guest Skyler Stubblefield

On this week's episode Jamie and Guy welcome Jamie's niece, Skyler Stubblefield, to discuss the Hope Squad: a peer-to-peer mental health support system in elementary, middle and high schools nationwide. Jamie explains how the Hope Squad was begun by a high school principal who was compelled to act due to the high suicide rate at his school. Joining forces with health care professionals and the community, the first Hope Squad was formed. As a current member of the Hope Squad in her high school, Sklyer explains how she and other classmates are nominated by their peers and then trained to help their classmates struggling with depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts or dealing with a death in their family. Skyler explains the positive impacts this experience has had on her and her community.
