What is the shape of our core? I don't mean this literally, more in the sense of how we begin to understand language by first learning about a letter of the alphabet's shape and sound. Our body is no different: if we can develop a 'conscious core' by first learning how our body works, strengthening it through exercise becomes that much easier.

Pilates is super effective at helping us build a conscious core and body language that then translates into other areas of our lives. Increased overall fitness and daily activities become that much easier when you develop a strong, supportive core.

Today, I'm exploring the anatomy of our core muscles and how to determine if your core is being trained effectively. I also lean into how Pilates breathing activates the deepest core muscles for strength and stability, and how Pilates exercises work the core muscles from the inside out using different positions, movements, and loads.

Building an understanding of the core through groundwork exercises before more advanced movements allows for quality training over quantity.

There's an intuitiveness that comes with learning about your conscious core as part of your body language that I trust will resonate with you and serve you in other areas of your life besides just your exercise mat.

This deep yet simple understanding has worked for me and will save you endless strength reps, trust me. Thanks, and let's dive into the episode!

"Sometimes what happens is we get a little disconnected from our body, we get a little disassociated. So it's really nice to reestablish – or establish for the first time – that connection back into your core. And this is what I think Pilates does so well and so effectively." ~ Aly DiRoma
