We will be covering the difference between flexibility and mobility. Flexibility focuses on muscles, enhancing their length and flexibility. Mobility, on the other hand, deals with the movement of bones and joints. At Physical Therapy San Pedro, we assess and measure mobility using goniometers to determine your range of motion.

Identifying whether an injury stems from mobility or flexibility is crucial. For instance, a soccer player constantly straining their hamstring may have a flexibility issue, while a weightlifter experiencing hip pain during squats may have a mobility issue. Understanding this distinction allows us to provide effective treatment tailored to your needs.

Prolonged inactivity and repetitive motions often lead to mobility issues. Sedentary lifestyles and desk jobs can restrict joint movement, resulting in reduced mobility. However, the good news is that with consistent effort and time, mobility can be regained.

To regain mobility, set specific goals based on your sport or activity. Whether you're a weightlifter, swimmer, or baseball player, understanding the movements involved is crucial. Dedicate regular sessions of 15 to 20 minutes, four to six times a week, to mobility work and witness the positive changes.

Maintaining and improving mobility require long-term consistency. If you're unsure where to start or need personalized guidance, don't hesitate to reach out to us or consult a movement expert. We're here to support you on your journey to improved mobility.
