Tamika L. Chester values her faith, family, and community. She is dedicated to helping people ignite their passions; find their purpose; and achieve their life goals by connecting them to the people, places, and things that will aid them in doing so. One of Tamika’s life mottos is “Be the change you wish to see in the world” followed by “Just do it”. Tamika grew up in the city of Camden and after graduating from Rowan University in 1997; she joined AmeriCorps, a national service program that engages Americans in intensive service to meet the nation’s critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. During that year of service, Tamika provided over 1,750 hours of community service to the children, youth, and families living in the city of Camden. It was during that time that Tamika realized the true meaning of Servant Leadership and has been a catalyst for change in her community and at work. Her irrepressible spirit gives her the ability to fearlessly tackle life’s downfalls and overcome adversity lovingly with humor, grace, and dignity. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and has provided group and/or individual mentoring to over 150 young women over the past 25 years. Tamika currently works for the New Jersey Department of Education as a Senior Program Officer for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Program. Her work experiences throughout Southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania, highlight over 25 years of documented successes in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating youth programs; out-of-school time programs; positive youth development; parent and family engagement, and mentoring. Above all, and most importantly, Tamika is a beloved daughter of the most High, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, and a friend.
