Whether you’re a new manager, you’ve managed one person, a few people, or teams, developing effective 1:1 skills is so important. 1:1s are a huge opportunity. When you don’t use 1:1 time with your manager or your direct reports, they can be a waste of time and leave more questions than answers. A lot of the time people have 1:1s because they just think they have to. They think ok we need this time to check in on projects and where things are going. Usually, they don’t last very long either.
