Before you go looking for some sticky back plastic and fairy liquid bottles (if you know you know!) Drew and Sam haven’t turned to arts and crafts this week, rather the boys spend this episode discussing, exploring and debating the art of creating one’s own opportunities in the entertainment world.
In an increasingly crowded and traditionally competitive industry, where there are always many performers seeking limited roles, more actors and creatives are “making their own work”. Writing, directing, producing and promoting, it is now fairly common to see the modern performer undertaking some (and even at times all) of these tasks and roles in order to put on plays, make films and release all sorts of new material.
However, there are obviously positives and negatives to cutting out the middleman and wearing all the hats, as in order to experience the end goal it does normally mean taking risks at the same time. Using the examples of recent guests and Drew himself, the Drewling Samantics lads discuss the excitement, hard work, determination and fear that it takes to fully become “your own boss”, and the rewards that (hopefully) follow.
