Feeling Overwhelmed by Change? Here are 5 Tips for Navigating It

Change is an inevitable part of life, but navigating it can be challenging. In this episode, I share five tips to help you manage and embrace change.

  1. Acknowledge that a lot IS going on in your life. When you're making big changes—like moving or switching jobs—things are far from routine. It's natural for our brains and bodies to sound the alarm when faced with uncertainty since they’re wired to keep us safe, and major lifestyle shifts don’t fit neatly into that safe zone.
  2. Separate the facts from your thoughts. By distinguishing between neutral facts and your thoughts or perspective of those facts, you can gain awareness and empower yourself to take on a different perspective.
  3. Emotions don’t mean you’re making the right or wrong decision. It’s normal to feel a range of emotions when making big changes. Feeling doubt or fear doesn't mean that you’re on the wrong path.
  4. Compile a list of questions your brain is already thinking. Write down everything your mind is offering you—big or small—and sort through what’s in your control to solve and what’s not.
  5. Borrow confidence from past experiences. Reflect on times when you’ve handled uncertainty and change before, and draw strength from others who have been through similar situations.
