In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "qualified" in the workplace, examining who gets labeled as such, who doesn't, and the underlying reasons. We explore "competency checking"—the practice of scrutinizing individuals' abilities—and how it disproportionately affects underrepresented groups, often going unnoticed or unchallenged. Our discussion aims to redefine qualifications in a fair, equitable, and actionable manner. Our guest, Shari Dunn , is an accomplished journalist, former attorney, news anchor, CEO, university professor, and sought-after speaker. She has been recognized as Executive of the Year and a Woman of Influence, with her work appearing in Fortune Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Ad Age, and more. Her new book, Qualified: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work , unpacks what it truly means to be deserving and capable—and why systemic barriers, not personal deficits, are often the real problem. Her insights challenge the narratives that hold so many of us back and offer practical solutions for building a more equitable future. Together, we can build workplaces and communities that don’t just reflect the world we live in, but the one we want to create. A world where being qualified is about recognizing the talent and potential that’s been overlooked for far too long. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table—it’s about building an entirely new table, one designed with space for all of us. Are you tired of feeling like motherhood is a chore? Do you wish she could be a superstar mom while also thriving in your own dreams? Are you fed up waiting for life to slow down so you can finally start working on yourself? Has motherhood secretly let you down when you realized it wasn’t what you had envisioned? Hey! I’m Aubree Felderhoff and I am so excited you are here at Goal Moms Podcast! Before I was a mom, I was a bubbly, high energy personal trainer with big dreams of raising a rock star family while also excelling in my own life. I was shocked when I woke up one day and realized I had spent a decade feeling let down by motherhood. I had devoted my every heartbeat to enriching the life of my three little boys, hard working husband, and constantly messy household. By the end of each day, my tank was running out of fumes, and I would crash into bed depleted and frustrated at my lack of time for my own needs. As a result, the joy I had expected to fill my years of motherhood was replaced with an endless cycle of stress, overwhelm, and exhaustion. After developing a debilitating chronic illness, I decided I needed to make a change if I wanted a shot at the happy, healthy motherhood journey I had dreamed of. I wanted to uncover a way to merge being a devoted mom with a strong and healthy woman who poured back into herself just as much as she did her family. What resulted was seven years of classes, training, rewiring, and self work to learn the systems I needed as a mom to organize my home, take back my time, conquer my health, and pour into my own goals and dreams. It took a lot of trials and tweaking, but I eventually created a streamlined method I could use to become my goal mom. I now have an operating system for my home that allows our house to run efficiently and effortlessly. I have a deep relationship with each of my boys built upon intentionality through quality time intested in each of them. My husband and I are no longer strangers passing each other from one practice to another, but instead a well matched team, working alongside each other towards our shared family and individual goals. We are each other’s biggest supporter, encouraging each other and holding a safe place to discuss hard things. I have overcome my debilitating chronic illness that plagued me for a decade and am happier and healthier than I have ever been. I have learned to embrace every crazy and yes sometimes chaotic moment of this journey in life, no longer feeling a victim to the demands life throws at me, but instead a calm and confident mama thankful for the second chance at happiness life has gifted me and I am bursting with excitement to share how you can have this too!! Inside this podcast you will learn how to set you house up on an operating system built to run without you, reclaim your time, create a no fail system to incorporate exercise at home, meal plan in minutes, define your values, hopes and dreams as a mom, and create action plans to crush them. You will skip away feeling on top of the world, knowing that you have taken back your motherhood journey, transitioning yourself to the goal mom you once envisioned. It’s time to stop just surviving another day, and start flourishing in everyway! Now is the time ladies! Grab your inspiration journal and pen and let’s write out the steps needed to accomplish those hopes and dreams you’ve had parked in a dusty corner for “someday.” Let “someday” start today!
