You have tens of thousands of thoughts per day. Most of them are not true. Today, the third in a series of looking at each of the Ten Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery in more detail. The third commandment is, "I must believe that most of my thoughts are untrue." Here are some tools to challenge bad thoughts, and how to manage them. Scripture: II Cor. 10:5, Psalm 34:8 The Ten Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery (Updated 3/8/2024; corollaries coming soon) 1. I must relentlessly refuse to participate in my own demise. 2. I must recognize that feelings are not facts, they are chemical events in my brain. 3. I must recognize that most of my thoughts are untrue. 4. I must love tomorrow more than I hate how I feel right now. 5. I must not treat bad feelings with bad operations. 6. I must stop making an operation out of everything. 7. I must not perpetuate generational thought or behavioral issues in my family or start any new ones. 8. I must love my brain and live in such a way as to improve it. 9. The Mathematics of Mind Change Ephesians 4 gives us the equations that direct the self-brain surgery process. Today, we're going to brush up on our arithmetic, and learn the math of mind change. 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 New Living Translation 15 Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. 16 For,“Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. F + K = M (Verse 13, faith + knowledge = maturity) M= SOC (Maturity = Standard of Christ) SOC = G + S (Standard of Christ = Grown up and stable) G + S = STL (Grown up and stable = Able to speak truth in love) STL = MLC + HGL (Speaking truth in love = More Like Christ and Healthy, Growing in Love) GM = C + D + FFG + CP (Gentile mind= confused, dark, far from God, chasing pleasure) Ephesians 4 (NLT): 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Living as Children of Light 17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.
