This week on The BibRave Podcast, we’re thrilled to feature one of our own, BibRave Ambassador Ebony Blackwell. Ebony sits on BibRave’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) Advisory Council, and has a PhD in Education Administration with a focus on Higher Education. Ebony is a mom, runner, working professional, and adventurer who is working to run 50 Marathons in 50 states!
In this episode, Jess and Andy chat with Ebony about her personal and professional journey learning about and experiencing issues of race, gender, and identity. They explore her dissertation, Taking Up Space: a Phenomenological Study of the Shared Experiences of Black Women enrolled in STEM Graduate Programs at PWIs, as a backdrop for how the running industry can better dismantle or adjust systems to enrich programs, initiatives, and policies. Ebony’s connection to community organizations like Youth Run NOLA inspired her commitment to her own running and gave her insight on how to bring resources, support, and organization to communities of color. The trio also discusses “tokenism” and how to prevent it, as well as techniques for starting (sometimes difficult) conversations about race. We’re proud to share Ebony’s story and grateful to have her in our BibRave community.
