Unlocking Health and Balance: Insights from Amy K. Wilson, a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist and Fitness Coach

Today we are talking with Amy Wilson, a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist, a certified fitness & nutrition coach who's mission is to empower and equip her clients to take charge of their health and find balance in their lives.
Amy has a passion for helping people prevent and reverse disease through nutrition and fitness. After many years working in the fitness industry and having her own personal struggles with striving to look to look her best with some of the fad diets of the 80's and overexercising, she found herself with a serious back injury and an exercise addict diagnosis. Through her experience and education, she found the balance and realized there was no "easy button" to releasing weight. She discovered there was so much disconnect between body image and what was healthy and then she discovered the connection between science, maintaining muscle and being healthy through nutrition and exercise.
Through her work as a pharmacist, she is seeing more and more cases of metabolic syndrome in younger populations. Individuals struggling with lifestyle disease such as diabetes and heart disease. There is more chronic inflammation than ever leading to disease and more cases of cirrhosis of the liver, not due to alcohol but due to fatty liver.
Amy also shares what she is witnessing in patients who are currently using weight-loss drugs, specifically Ozempic. She shares about long-term health risks, how the medication works and why there is such a concern and that in such a short amount of time, there are already class action lawsuits happening due to the health risks.

- experiencing the 80's, yo-yo dieting, overexercising, pressure to look "good" to be in exercise videos.
- Peri menopause hits and in looking for "easy shiny button", Amy finds balance through proper nutrition and strength training and focusing on health & science,
- through her work as a geriatric pharmacist, she is seeing younger people coming in with metabolic syndrome, lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Happening in 20's and 30's!
-we can reverse a lot of things naturally, goal is daily functional fitness.
- medications such as Ozempic currently being used for weight loss, the effects on the body such as slowing down of GI tract, toxin build up, colon cancer risk, bone loss , muscle loss and concerns for long-term health risks.
