Join us as we uncover the remarkable story of Ryan Magana, a prime example of dedication and leadership in action.

At a young age, Ryan wanted to be a United States Marine and got his chance to join at 17 years old, during his senior year of high school. Turning 18 in basic training and starting his Marine Corps career, Ryan quickly rose through the ranks, graduating as an honor platoon from basic and an honor graduate from the School of Infantry. He eventually deployed to Iraq twice with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, Weapons Co. After two combat deployments under his belt and being promoted to corporal, he reenlisted and requested to be sent to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, Weapons Co. in order to deploy to Afghanistan.

Once on the ground in Afghanistan, Ryan quickly found himself in one of the deadliest deployments the Marine Corps has faced since WW2. While on this deployment, 3/5 was able to bring the fight to the enemy's doorstep with a battalion-confirmed kill count of over 3,000 and just over 6,000 unconfirmed. Though many successful military operations were conducted, it did not come without loss; the Marines of 3/5 had 25 heroes who lost their lives and nearly 400 wounded during the 7 months abroad.

After Afghanistan and now a sergeant, Ryan then requested to be sent to the next available unit going on a MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit), which ended up being 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, Weapons Co. Once Ryan's orders were complete with 1/4, he received orders to inspector-instructor duty to assist with the training of reserve Marines in Connecticut.

Enjoy this episode and learn from the journey and sacrifices made by Ryan and his fellow Marines in service to our country.
