47:35“Software is eating the world.” That was written over 14 years ago, back in 2011 by Marc Andreesen, and it seems like that is growing more true every day. Today we’re going to talk about the increasingly digital nature of businesses - all businesses - as well as how the concept of composability, which has been applied effectively in the world of software, might just have applications well beyond technology infrastructure. To help me discuss this topic, I’d like to welcome Chris Bach, Co-Founder of Netlify. ×Chicago Fashion Week 2024 launches this week! oct 9th - 20th.
A few weeks ago we host a little event on Post Fashion Show Success. Here's what we learned: You just produced or participated in an amazing fashion show. Your designs were well received and the accolades keep coming in, but once the thrill is over….What happens next? It may seem daunting at first and difficult to navigate what the next steps are to convert your show’s success into meaningful results. I'm putting together an event that is structured with small group discussions to dig deeper into this topic. In a classroom style-setting, my hope is to highlight the best ideas and come up with actionable items and takeaways for you to leave feeling connected and inspired. There will be groups of designers, models, photographers, production assistants, influencers and fashion enthusiasts. The Chicago fashion scene is thriving with talent and our goal is to give you the tools to take your work and your brand further. Rachel Jimenez Penca, the Founder of Rachel J Styling will be facilitating the discussions and sharing her first hand knowledge and experience with brands and the many facets of the fashion industry from personal to celebrity styling over the past 15+ years. Rachel is also a Professor of Fashion Styling at Columbia College Chicago.…

Hi everyone! It’s me, J.P. Lamp, your friendly neighborhood Happy Hour enthusiast and yes, the moment you’ve all been waiting for is finally here! My quest to find the best happy hours here in Chicago. Acceptable hours 4 - 6 is the standard Do they offer it on Fridays / weekends? Do they have a Social hour outside of 4 - 6? Multiple options of food Are things shareable? Are menu options the same size or smaller portions for less money? Can you have a well rounded meal for happy hour? Are there pairable items that are easy for the restaurant to upsell? Is it just $ off the menu options prices - just discounted or actually different offerings? Multiple drink options Is it only house wine + domestics? Is it $ off cocktails? Are there specialty cocktails for HH? Half off wine BOTTLES and you win Service Did someone make sure you wanted to put in one last order before HH ended? Was the HH menu mentioned to you? Is it easy to get a seat? Will I Come Back? How was the overall experience? Did the menu entice me to come eat here for a full price meal? Will I come back for the happy hour? Based on your expectations / anticipation, was it worth it?…

Bau Bao Treats https://www.baubaotreats.com/ OUR STORY Bau Bao Treats was born out of a passion to share my love for different foods and encapsulate these amazing flavors inside a baked bao, which has always been my comfort food. As a kid, I have fond memories of grocery shopping with my grandmother and getting a coconut or custard bao as a treat from her. While studying abroad in Hong Kong, I would often buy baos at a local bakery for lunch. Baos are such an amazingly easy, to-go food. What if they were filled with other tasty ingredients besides the traditional flavors? ... and so began Bau Bao Treats!…

Journey Through Our Dietary Past: An Evolutionary Dining Experience Dinner Party It including these six themes: Gatherer Early Pliocene | 5 mya Scavenger Gatherer Late Pliocene | 3.5 mya Hunter Gatherer Early Paleolithic | 2.0 mya Food Producer Neolithic Revolution | 15,000 years ago Food Consumer Industrial Revolution to Present | 1700s – Present Future of Food Many people often ask what we are supposed to eat, but Dr. Schindler suggested we instead focus on the question: “How should we eat?”, how we are not designed to eat the same foods as other animals, what foods nourish and satiate us, how ancestral eating required the use of all of our senses, and how the modern industrial food system stripped this power from us. So this got me thinking more about the connection we have to our food and how it could be fun to create a similar type of dining experience. It may not be as intricately planned, but it could still be pretty cool. If you’re wondering what an ancestral consists of, I’m referring to what people ate before modern agriculture, meaning that it will be animal-based. Coco + Peach Jewelry https://www.cocopeachjewelry.com/ Jessica is the designer/founder of coco + peach jewelry, your one stop online jewelry boutique for chic women + men + cool girls everywhere. Her mission is pretty simple: design affordable luxuries that won't break the bank and are timeless. She launched her boutique in 2019 but has been designing jewelry for over the past decade. You could say jewelry is in her genes since almost everyone in her family and huge extended family (no joke, she have a million cousins) have been in the jewelry business since the 1980s. As immigrants from Ecuador and Colombia, her family believed that to have your own business was the ultimate achievement and she grew up with the mentality that she always needed to be her own boss. Although she grew up in her parents’ jewelry store, running their errands at the famed Jeweler's Row and spending a lifetime surrounded by people dedicated to the art of jewelry making, she didn’t pursue jewelry as her career. After graduating with her doctorate in psychology and opening her own private practice, she started dipping her toes in the family business and began designing pieces for herself. Whenever she wore my jewelry, strangers would stop me and ask about them. Having a passion for design and seeing a need for affordable and well made jewelry, she launched coco + peach jewelry in May 2019, named after my daughters' nicknames. She added a line for younger girls, Girl, and c+p men in 2020. In addition to being affordable and stylish, coco + peach is also chic + philanthropic. She is a proud partner with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and donate $1 of every sale to this organization. Since designing her first earring (she still wears the prototype of the Carolina), she been dedicated to creating pieces that she would wear from the office to a night out. If she won't wear it, you won't see it in the boutique. Creating modern treasures under $100 is her number one goal and she hopes you love your c+p jewelry as much as she does.…

People want to sit outside at restaurants. And thanks to the pandemic, tons of places have been able to set up tables on sidewalks and streets, so there are more places to eat outdoors than ever. But if you want to sit outside in some relative peace and quiet - without having pedestrians, dogs, couriers, and the ever-present fleet of Amazon Prime trucks going by - you still have options. After all, you just spent a year in relative solitude, and maybe the idea of hanging out on crowded patios chatting with people you haven’t seen since 2019 feels a little like social whiplash. Here’s a list of relatively secluded or out-of-the-way patios for you to eat and drink outside in Chicago. I believe there is no such thing as a bad form of a (cooked) potato and will never say no to a piece of blueberry pie. ReyesMorenoDesigns @ReyesMorenoDesigns David Moreno was born and raised in Chicago’s Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods. David has been designing and actively involved in fashion since about the age of 7. He enjoyed sketching and learned sewing skills from his mother, Amparo Gonzalez, who became the head seamstress in 1982 for The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago. At an early age he was exposed to a variety of fashions, from the company’s costumes that involved authentic and colorful wardrobe to the modern high fashion that was in style at that time. David also engaged in fanatically watching Mexican “novelas” typically known as soap operas. He cared little for the storyline, but instead paid close attention at what the actresses wore during each episode. On September 4 2011, David happily married Rafael Reyes. Rafael was born in La Piedad, Michoacán, Mexico. Rafael is a creative and self-motivated individual. He is an admirable hard worker with a positive perspective on life who never sees anything as impossible. In 2012, Rafael started learning basic sewing skills from his mother-in-law, Amparo Gonzalez. David and Rafael started assisting Amparo in mending costumes. Both yearned to learn as much as possible, always motivated by their passion of putting garments together and restoring them back to their original state. It was then that they were given the chance to create new costumes for the dance company’s anniversary performance. This unique learning experience gave them the opportunity to take their passion to another level. In 2014, Rafael was asked to work with a local designer and this provided him with more hands-on experience. David and Rafael frequently spoke about their shared goal, and that was to one day create their own fashion line, ReyesMorenoDesigns. In 2015 their dream came true and David and Rafael founded ReyesMorenoDesigns. Their work consisted of creating unique and detailed pieces for drag performers both local and throughout the United States, as well as for women who looked for unique dresses for social events. In 2017, they were again asked to design and manufacture the costumes for The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago’s 35th year anniversary performance. Then in 2018 Reyes Moreno designed and created its first ranchero style wedding and “quinceañera” collection. This collection is on sale at a local shop located on the famous 26th street in Little Village, Chicago. ReyesMorenoDesigns was also given the honor of designing a dress for one of Mexico’s top folk music performer, Beatriz Adriana and continue to work with rising artist and daughter of Beatriz Adriana and Marco Antonio Solis, Beatriz Solis by ebing asked to design gowns for her upcoming Ranchero album release. ReyesMorenoDesigns is seeing an increased demand for all types of affairs, both artistic and social. Their styles fit the modern demands of not only their community but also other regions. One of their famous most requested styles includes the ‘ranchero” fashion. This fashion is a variation of folk wardrobe applied to evening, wedding, and quinceañera gowns. Their 2019 prom collection can be described as modern, exceptional, and incomparable. The collection meets the demands of today’s youth by creating garments with glamour, charm, and high fashion. ReyesMorenoDesigns continue to work towards making their clients feel amazing by wearing exclusive designs, tailored to their fashion taste, modern demand and created to enhance their natural beauty.…
Windy City Cosmo Amanda Elliott Windycitycosmo@gmail.com https://windycitycosmo.com/ Welcome to Windy City Cosmo, a lifestyle blog that looks at city life in an artistic light. Amanda Elliott seeks to draw connections and capture Chicago’s flare through ambiance, food, and conversations at professional and creative events. When she came to Chicago, she wanted to live the chic, cosmopolitan, Carrie Bradshaw-esque life that is totally possible in the city! So, she created Windy City Cosmo, to learn from women who are building their own business as Chicago female entrepreneurs, but also learn about adulting as a freelancer and growing in her career as a marketer through events at General Assembly, NextDoor, 1871 and conferences like TechWeek. She’s not looking to sip and dip at events (although sometimes it can be awkward), she really believes that meeting people in person is important, and she hopes to build connections whether it’s by finding new friends (because everyone tends to leave after a year or two), creating partnerships or finding the next best cocktails to take a date. Her blog is a place where you can find that chic restaurant or happy hour bar, talk about your unexpected lover, and be inspired by entrepreneurs and the savvy social media socialites meeting and greeting, and most importantly building a better version of themselves and the world. Sip a cosmo, read a cosmo, and live a cosmopolitan life on Windy City Cosmo.…

Alex Jewell is a programmer by day and Chitown foodie by night. From the horse’s mouth: Brand: Developing a strong brand is an art you can't learn in school or read about on Medium. It takes something innate and simple: being human. I've spent my entire life studying what that means, and the greater half being conscious of it. Consistency, relatability, clarity, and relevancy iron out your identity and make you recognizable and memorable. Strategy: People work in particular ways. Social media has exacerbated trends and the exposure of human nature, giving us the perfect platform by which to study how people interact with each other, with technology, and with content. I know what works and what doesn't. Developing a brand is one thing, but building an entity does not make people flock to it. By applying strategy, we expose target markets to who you are and help them fall in love with you. He utilizes his experience as a programmer to capture some of the most fascinating stories in food across Chicago. @BestFoodChicago @BestFoodAlex alex@bestfoodalex.com…

Started in 2010 by brothers, Marshall and Elliott Rader, the GFB has been a leader in the gluten-free industry by creating food that not only nourishes your body but tastes amazing, too. Have you ever thought life would be better if snacking could be nutritious and delicious—if gluten-free didn’t have to mean taste-free? So have they, which is why here at the GFB, they value Marshall and Elliott’s courage to walk away from the corporate world in order to invest in a product idea that eventually became a way of life. While the brothers’ initial goal focused on creating a good-tasting, good-for-you, gluten-free protein bar, their product line has since expanded and so has the scope of their mission. Every day the GFB aims to make the world a better place by committing to producing healthy foods in honest ways. They source organic whenever possible and use only wholesome ingredients, and while they believe in simplicity when it comes to their food, they value the complexities associated with being a company of integrity. They actively search for ways to innovate healthy living, operate more sustainably, diversify their workforce, and enrich their community. The focus of the GFB now encompasses the quality of both their products and the lifestyles of their team members, the community, the retailers they work with, their suppliers, and their customers—gluten intolerant or not. https://theglutenfreebar.com/…
Mohammad Salahy & Phil White co-founded Heray Spice, a premium Afghan saffron and spice supplier on April 2017. Their mission at Heray Spice is to help Afghan family farmers economically by bringing their saffron to US markets, as well as helping the children by re-investing 10% of the company profits to building schools for Afghan Children. Since their establishment, we sent 12 Afghan Students back to school... 10% of all our net-income goes to Heray Charity Foundation to educate and build schools for Afghan Children. For reference, in Afghanistan, it costs only $70 to send a child to school for a year. Still, only 1 out of 5 students finish elementary school due to economic hardship. @tastewithjais http://tastewithjais.com/ “Loving Chicago is like loving a woman with a broken nose – you may well find lovelier lovelies, but never a lovely so real” – Nelson Algren After nearly 22 hours of traveling, he remembers stepping off the plane and walking down the steps onto the tarmac. It was about 5:00 am and the sun was peeking out from behind the tall palm trees. It was hot, humid, and muggy. That’s when it hit him – the smell. It was a fascinating combination of wood smoke, spices, and putrefying garbage. He had never experienced anything quite like it. Like someone coming out of a coma, his senses awoke, and he got the chance to digest what was around him – India. You can’t predict where life’s going to take you, but with an open mind you can embrace where you are going. Upon landing in Mumbai, he didn’t know what was in store for him. It was his first time traveling abroad as an adult. He didn’t speak the language — nor was he fully involved in the culture — but he had a voracious appetite for food and adventure. His party and he left the airport and they drove down a dirt road to what their driver boldly called “the best non-vegetarian restaurant in India.” He doesn’t remember the name of the place. he was hungry, tired, and delirious from hours on the road, but he does remember this: it was the best Indian food he had ever eaten. From the lamb curry to the naan – and everything in between – the meal made him question everything he thought he had known about food. From that point on, with an open mind, he embarked on new discoveries. From the sandscapes of Dubai to the rolling hills of Scotland, he has come to realize that food isn’t just a form of sustenance, or identity – it truly is a form of connection. Discovering foods abroad has become an important way for him to interact with the world around him. He wants the world to interact with Chicago the same way he has interacted with the world. Chicago is a city with big shoulders and the hub of the United States when it comes to world class dining. Food is a universal language that we all understand, and food in any language is great conversation. Chicago is his home – born and raised – and he wants to welcome you to his home. Let’s discover food together. -Jais…

ABOUT US The shop opened in June 2012 in Pilsen arts district. The idea was to create a small artisan chocolate and confection shop, with a nod to those in France and Spain. They infuse our French culinary training with our South Asian heritage by creating chocolates such as hazelnut coriander praline, Indian chili caramel, and many others. The studio serves as an open-air kitchen and retail area. As soon as you walk in, you can see the chocolatiers hard at work each day, creating high quality chocolates from scratch in small batches. Details are an imperative part of the shop, so each and every part of the process is important. They use the highest quality ingredients and chocolate including single origin chocolates from Ghana, Mexico, and Tanzania. OUR PHILOSOPHY They are guided by three principles – to always seek inspiration, support the community, and act with intention.…

Curt’s Cafe Susan Garcia TRIESCHMANN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR https://curtscafe.org/ At Curt’s you’ll find freshly brewed coffee, homemade pastries, inspired sandwiches, soups, and salads in a warm and welcoming home away from home. They strive to use local products and vendors and we make everything possible from scratch. They offer free WiFi, and space for community meetings, book clubs, knitting groups — you name it! Just call the cafes for more information. Their student-trainees, 15 through 24 years, are living in at-risk situations such as having contact with the judicial system, or are homeless, food insecure or have dropped out of school. They are determined to build a positive future for themselves. For these young adults, being able to get and hold a job will contribute immeasurably toward their success. Their program at Curt’s is unique and much needed. Proven at-risk or formerly incarcerated young adults have few resources available to them. Even a short confinement dramatically affects one’s ability to thrive outside incarceration. With little hope of securing employment, even for entry level positions, many end up living on the streets and return to destructive habits. Cycling through the courts, 86% of those released are sent back through the system within 3 years. We all pay the price for such recidivism. For our sake and theirs, it makes sense to direct these young adults toward a secure and productive future. At Curt’s they provide that opportunity by teaching marketable skills and then assisting in securing employment. They teach culinary techniques but also provide instruction they will need to fill in educational gaps, gain confidence, and become job-ready.…

“Co-owners Katie Morgan and Charlie Davis were introduced by a mutual friend in Chicago in the summer of 2011. Charlie was a professional brewer in Chicago at the time. He decided to try and woo her by making a hard cider for her birthday. It worked, and Right Bee Cider was born. Right Bee Cider officially launched in November 2014, after two years of planning and preparation. The Chicago-based duo has taken the city by storm, creating a unique, unfiltered, dry cider that is currently on tap at 30 bars and restaurants around the city. They are the only two people in their company, and have done everything themselves since the beginning. “We create, package, and distribute our cider ourselves,” Katie says. “I hand paint the taphandles, Charlie has built most of our equipment by hand… this is truly a labor of love.” They were featured on the cover of Chicago’s RedEye, The Chicagoist, Crain’s Business Chicago, and they won a Sam Adams competition in May 2015 where they competed for the National finals in New York City this December 2015. They are incredibly passionate about the art of cider-making, high quality natural ingredients, sustainability, and community support. “Our cider brought us together,” says Charlie. ‘And we hope it continues to bring other people together.'” http://www.rightbeecider.com/…

Justin Doggett, owner & founder of Kyoto Black, is a cold brew fanatic and he created Kyoto Black because he believes Kyoto Style is the best way to cold brew coffee. Kyoto Style coffees have better flavors, smoother textures and no sediment. Oddly enough, the style is mostly unknown, even though cold brew has exploded in popularity. His first experience drinking Kyoto Style cold brew was in 2011. That cup was not great, but the experience of drinking it was so different that he had to pursue it. Kyoto Style clearly had a lot of potential and he wanted to unlock it. One year later he created his first custom home brewer. https://kyotostylecoffee.com/…

Ever wonder what munching on Fried Grasshoppers tastes like? How about having water Jelly for dessert? How about savoring Split Duck Face all the while watching Taiko drummers, Lao and Samoan dancers? These are just a few of the dynamic plates and dance troupes that will be offered at Strange Foods Festival 2. The festival will be held at the beautiful Stan Mansion. Last year's fest attracted 500 people sampling strange dishes from Chicago's local restaurants. Featured items were steamed brain in banana leaves, sticky rice stuffed then grilled in a bamboo stalk for dessert, black corn fungus and eyeball tacos, bulls testicles and many more. The title Strange Foods may get guests to look the other way but when in actuality the term strange only applies to those that aren't accustom to it. What is strange in America, may actually be a delicacy in other nations. The Festival will educate people on dishes that may look unfamiliar with unusual ingredients but can be very tasty if executed right. Last years cuisine ranged from Syrian, Thai, Laotian, Mexican, Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese. We had some hiccups but will definately learn from it. We appreciate all that attended and promised this year it's all about paying attention to details and curating dishes so that no vendor space is wasted. The same brain child from last years event will be organizing this fest but this time he will be partnering up with Dew Suriyawan(Thai Food Festival co- Founder and Owner of Immm Rice and Beyond and Spoon). There will be returning vendors with new dishes and new vendors such as Kei Go Lanee(Oaxaca), Seafood on the Tables(Cajun), Sweet Rice(Thai), Ninjafoods(Laos), Bydamao(Chengdu), Mandi Noor(Yemen), Suchi(Japanese) and many more. Early bird tickets will be starting at $45 and general admission topping at $55. The ticket price will include unlimited drinks and food tasting from 15+ restaurants, photo booth provided by defining78.com. Free parking a block away at Darwin Elementary School. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Feed My Starving Children Foundation. With your help we fed 5k hungry kids last year. Find us on Facebook Strange Foods Chicago Festival and Instagram @strangefoodschicagofestival for photos from last year and future updates.…

Mary Nguyen Aregoni received her BBA in Marketing from Xavier University in 1989 and her MSBA in International Business from Johns Hopkins University in 1994. Ms. Aregoni has a notable background as an IT Systems Manager with a 20 year career working for Procter & Gamble (1989-2009) working in various locations such as Chicago, New York, Brussels, Cincinnati and Baltimore. Mary decided she wanted to fulfill a dream of owning her own business and she wanted to have a restaurant where she could share her Vietnamese heritage with others. A restaurant where a diner could engage in food travel tourism through delectable Southeast Asian cuisine specifically Vietnamese and Thai. In 2009 she launched her restaurant Saigon Sisters which was also the year when the economic climate was not conducive to new ventures Mary knew her background in corporate strategy, marketing and analytics would serve her well combined with the support of her encouraging mother, sister and husband. Mary began the realization of her dream. Having spent her early years in the war-torn country of Vietnam where her Mother and Grandmother were once successful business women Mary as a child fled with her family to Thailand. Eventually they made their way to the U.S. where they had to start over. They had nothing except for drive, determination and the ability to adapt. Mary was taught that having a strong foundation was crucial for building a life of possibilities and as such Education and Knowledge were key components. Mary feels it is really about having a mental mindset that you will succeed. Fear is not an option. It is about knowing the risks and managing them. It is a privilege to do what you want in life. It's not easy being an entrepreneur, it is critical to be prepared, have the upfront capital, know that there will be long hours and accept that there will be failure but know how to navigate the hard times and above all know that you can't do it alone. You need support. With a restaurant it is about having the right team, the food, the ambience, knowing your customers. knowing what they want, need in a dining experience and Marketing. People need to know who you are. These are the reasons that in an extremely difficult business sector coupled with challenging economic conditions Mary Nguyen Aregoni has thrived. Saigon Sisters which offers fast casual dining and catering services from its three locations across Chicago including: French Market, Lake Street, Northwestern Memorial and the much anticipated O'Hare airport location. She also recently launched a new brand Bang Chop Thai Kitchen last year which serves authentic Thai cuisine also in downtown Chicago. Since opening day in 2009 Saigon Sisters, Chicagoans have embraced the pho (soup), spring rolls, banh mi (sandwiches), and more. The famed Michelin Guide and Zagat rave over the cuisine. Saigon Sisters has won numerous accolades and Mary Nguyen Aregoni has shown once again that hard work, being authentic, and following your dream is possible if you really believe in yourself and your products. www.saigonsisters.com www.bangchopthai.com…
"A goofy nerd with elegant style and confidence… is that a real thing? Don’t let the jokes and laughter distract you, one minute talking with Grant McNamara about fashion and style is all it takes to see how passionate and talented he is. As one of Chicago’s top stylist for both men and women, he doesn’t see any client as a challenge, just an opportunity to have fun. Now, Grant is beginning to design his own line, G ALXNDR. Not having any formal background in fashion, he went from the consulting and corporate world to being named one of Chicago’s most stylish men in just a couple years. What does he attribute it to? His Ma making him iron his clothes when he was younger. That, caring, and telling his personal story through style and living happy. It might help that he won a nationwide model search contest and has been seen in numerous publications and videos, including a cover of Chicago Style Weddings magazine, the face of LYFE Kitchen ads, and the face of a local custom clothing company."…

John Manion’s star is a rising in Chicago. Despite the fact that he’s been a Chicago-area chef for nearly two decades, the last few years have put him on the culinary map. When Manion was just eight years old, his family was transplanted to sprawling São Paulo, Brazil, introducing him to a whole new world of food at a young age, inspiring his culinary trajectory. His first restaurant, La Sirena Clandestina, is Brazilian-inspired—what Manion envisioned as a sort of mysterious, hidden spot you might stumble upon in coastal Brazil. Translated as “The Hidden Mermaid,” La Sirena Clandestina serves simple, beachy Brazilian classics like Pao de Queijo, Moqueca, and Caipirinhas. Now, Manion has opened a second South America-inspired restaurant, El Che Bar, a nod to his travels throughout Argentina.…

Say hello to Bites Asian Tapas, a cozy spot with lots of small plates from the Pacific Rim and beyond (yes, “beyond” includes Mexico and India), located in the heart of Lakeview. Japan. Thailand. China. Korea. Vietnam. The USA. They all make great food. And you’ll find influences from all of them here. It’s sort of like a culinary supergroup. On the menu: kimchi egg rolls, pulled-pork-topped cornbread waffles (for brunch) and a ribeye-stuffedCrying Amigo Taco (its tears take the form of a Thai-style chili sauce). So you’ll want to come here when you’re feeling... well, you don’t know what you’re feeling. You just know that barn-wood-covered walls, a roaring fire, some ramen noodles and a spicy ginger martini (the Hot Geisha) will improve your cold winter night. http://www.bitestapas.com/…

When I started this pursuit, I thought the most interesting thing I could write about — and explore the world through — was food. However, much like our current presidential candidates, I’ve changed my mind since then. It’s been just about a year since I first started Three Times Per Day. Since then, I’ve developed new passions and interests, grown in my career, returned to school, gotten involved with an amazing non-profit, began writing for Fitt Chicago, and have all the while continued to assess the evolving meaning of health and balance. In short, I feel as though limiting Three Times Per Day to food would mean I was not writing about that which is most important to me or most interesting to you. I realized one’s spends their day basically three ways: working, playing, and recharging. The new and improved Three Times Per Day is all about navigating the balance between doing these things. Food will obviously still be a focal point, since it’s my ultimate recharge activity. But I (and special guest writers!) will also be posting about exercise, the fun things to do (around Chicago, definitely, and the world, maybe??), and self-exploration. Because I’m a female young professional and am examining the world through this lens, the topics covered will primarily cater to that audience. But balance is not reserved for women and yuppies! It’s something people from all walks of life strive to achieve, so I hope everyone who stumbles upon this finds something for them. And if you don’t? Shoot me an email or post a comment letting me know what you do want to see, and I’ll do my best to make that happen. -Rachael http://www.threetimesperday.com/…

Sconnie Nation is dedicated to celebrating the Wisconsin lifestyle! Sconnie Nation prides itself on in-house, unique, masterpieces that cannot be found anywhere else. The Sconnie tradition began way back in 1848 when Wisconsin became the 30th state in the Union and continues today. We started the company during the spring of 2004 in our freshmen dorm room out in Turner Kronshage with the goal of spreading Sconnie pride across the country. Today, Sconnie Nation is still based in Madison, Wisconsin. The idea behind Sconnie Nation is simple. Anyone from Wisconsin, who attends school in Wisconsin, or just loves the dairy state in general can identify with Sconnie. Sconnie is anything of or relating to Wisconsin. Sconnie is an identity. It can be used as a noun ("I am a Sconnie") or an adjective ("Look at that Sconnie truck"). You don't have to be from Wisconsin to appreciate the Sconnie movement. It's all about embracing and celebrating this genuinely Wisconsinesque environment we call home. Sconnie is tailgating, bowling, bubblers, washing cheese curds down with a beer, having a tractor-shaped mailbox, or eating a cream puff. If you like eating a brat and cheering for the Pack, you know what we're talking about. www.sconnienation.com…

Our Love for Barbecue was born somewhere between our first bites of a hamburger and being handed the grill tongs for the first time. For us that passion flourished when we were first exposed to real old fashioned wood fired barbecue. It was simple, and so delicious, and yet unlike anything we had tried before. We were immediately hooked and our fascination quickly turned into a serious obsession. Since then, we've spent nearly ten years traveling the country in search of the best barbecue, and developing our recipes Facebook: Ironside Barbecue Instagram: Ironsidebbq website: ironsidebbq.com email: ironsidebbq@gmail.com…
