Ep 34. What Is It Like To Be An Associate Teacher? Ft. Paul Kralik
Manage episode 308273981 series 2902932
This year I was lucky enough to train a student teacher and have my first experience in being an Associate Teacher. Teaching a student teacher is definitely a lot different than teaching your students! So it made me think, what makes a great Associate Teacher?
This week, I brought in my Associate Teacher, Mr. Paul Kralik. Paul trained me back in March of 2012 at Northern Secondary. Paul has been a teacher for 15 years, and in the span has trained 20 student teachers! He currently works at Northern Secondary, teaching grade 9 Business, Accounting, and Financial Securities. Paul received his B.Ed of OISE and his MBA from the Schulich Business School at York University.
Paul was an incredible Associate Teacher, and I had to pick his brain about:
- His approach to training student teachers
- His philosophy around giving feedback:
- How often? Daily? Weekly? After every lesson?
- How to give difficult or constructive feedback?
- How to manage difficult student teachers?
- How to ensure your students receive quality education while training your student teacher?
- How to be an effective Associate Teacher?
and much more!
If you have the opportunity to become an Associate Teacher, I would highly recommend! Check out what Paul has to say first!
