In this week's Podcast Episode, Laura Dowling, interviews Rebecca O'Dwyer, MD, and together they discuss Rebecca's knowledge of the treatment and research of Epilepsy in all age groups.
Laura and Rebecca also talk openly about being a woman in medicine, sexual harassment, her Irish heritage, divorce, dating and motherhood, and traveling the world to achieve her dreams.
Talking from personal experience of the American health system, and its systemic failures despite recent law changes in the US to support patients with short and long-term illnesses. As a practicing clinician and as a mother whose child required pediatric care Rebecca talks about the limitations of the US healthcare system, the vast differences, rules, and regulations, and the price some people, despite having insurance cannot afford to pay to receive the right medicines and treatment for them.

Rebecca O'Dwyer, MD, was born and raised in Dublin and moved to Munich for medical school where she completed her medical thesis in temporal lobe epilepsy semiology. She completed an epilepsy fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic before completing a neurology residency at Georgetown University Medical Center. She then did a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. O'Dwyer is a member of the AAN and AES and a member of the AES guidelines committee.
