In today’s interview, we focus on how Tom’s early life experience with Maharishi Mahesh Yoga (he spent 12 years on the Parusha program, a program designed by Maharishi for men who wish to dedicate themselves fully to the most rapid pace of evolving consciousness as possible) led to his later work in the field of helping create not only effective communication but appreciation and understanding across diverse cultures. We discuss how Tom’s current book project – an exploration of the parallels between the yogic path and his work bridging communications across diverse cultures are both based on the same underlying principle: there is a fundamental unity that integrates it all.

Tom Morgan is an intercultural consultant, coach, and trainer who has been helping leaders and employees of global organizations effectively communicate across cultures since 1993. Tom’s current work includes conducting intercultural communications training; executive coaching; diversity and inclusion; inclusive leadership workshops; multicultural and virtual team building; executive relocation and repatriation programs.

Tom has lived and worked in 12 countries outside the U.S. His work includes: consulting with heads of state as well as top military, educational and business leaders. Through these experiences, Tom has developed a deep interest in the study of cultural differences. He received his formal training in intercultural communication from some of the most respected leaders in the field.

Throughout his career, Tom has conducted training and consulting for more than 70 countries and has worked with Fortune 500 companies and other leading companies in virtually all major industries. Tom regularly coaches CEOs and other C-level executives (those who occupy senior positions and impact company-wide decisions) of some of the world’s largest multinational corporations. Tom’s primary area of expertise is helping his clients develop intercultural competence—the ability to shift cultural perspectives, empathize, and read culturally diverse situations accurately, and to exhibit culturally appropriate behavior in a variety of contexts.

Regarding regional and country expertise, the area of proficiency for which Tom is best known is the cultural landscape of India. Tom has lived, studied, and worked on the Indian subcontinent for a total of three years. His family connections with India date back to the 1930s, when his aunt and uncle were associated with Mahatma Gandhi, the Viceroy of India and other historically important figures in pre- and post-independence India. Tom has spent much of his life studying Indian culture, the Vedic traditions, the historic roots of modern Indian culture, as well as modern Indian business culture and trends. He has worked with CEOs and other C-level executives from large western-based multinational companies working in or with India, and with C-level executives and personnel from India working with the West.
