Katie McKinstry Stylos developed a passion for the mountains and climbing at a young age and it’s been her passion ever since. She’s a nature-loving artist who uses pre-loved climbing rope as her medium - and the results are incredible!
Every piece of her rope art is one-of-a-kind and impossible to duplicate. Prior to being transformed into art, the climbing rope has already lived a full life, safeguarding people as they climbed mountains. Katie says that every strand of rope in her artworks has a tale to tell.
On this episode, host Angela de Burger chats with Katie about why she upcycles climbing rope to create her artworks, her method for designing each piece, the national parks theme she’s chosen for her next collection, and how she’s carrying on her grandfather’s tradition by incorporating a family brandmark into her own work.
