On this episode, host Justin Hong interviews dragon boat athlete Fiona Chan. Fiona paddled for Western University in Canada and is now competing at the Premier Level of dragon boating with her team, the Outer Harbor Warriors. Her team recently won silver at the 2022 Canadian Dragon Boat Championships.

In this episode, Fiona shares her background and how playing sports helped her develop self-confidence (2:18), dragon boating basics, such as how many paddlers are on a team, where races take place, the main dragon boating events, what the Premier Level of dragon boating is, etc. (5:40), what sparked her initial interest in dragon boating (11:20), as well as what led to her decision to compete at the Premier Level (13:17).

She also talks about her training, nutrition, sleep, and recovery strategies (15:35), her aspirations to make the Under 24 Team Canada dragon boat team (19:15), why she is so motivated to excel at her sport (21:33), her experience being a female Asian athlete (22:05), how she incorporates discipline into her training (29:30), her best piece of advice for aspiring Asian Canadian and Asian American athletes (30:55), and much more.
