How to Overcome being Abused Physically, Mentally & Sexuality with Emily Cleghorn (EP36) Emily Cleghorn has a fire burning in her soul to make the world a better place and it’s not hard to see why. If someone would have told her that she would use her trauma that she was enduring in her childhood to inspire and lift others up, she would have laughed you off. Emily grew up in beautiful small town Nova Scotia, a place she couldn’t wait to get as far away from as soon as she was old enough to leave home. For her, where she grew up represented a lot of pain, disappointment and unmet promises. It represented a lot of limitation and toxic relationships. She somehow found a strength deep within her to keep persisting. She was aware of the statistics for kids that grew up in similar situations and she made a decision early on that she was not going to be one of those statistics. She was going to be different. She grew a thick skin and built a wall around her heart to protect herself. It wasn’t until she was older that she learned that the wall she had built to keep hurt and pain out was also keeping love out. This was not the life she wanted to live. Up to this point, anxiety and depression had taken root. She knew changes needed to happen. Becoming a mama was the catalyst for healing in Emily’s life. The hardship of infertility had taught her a lot about how her body was storing the trauma that she had yet to process. She thought that time and geography put enough space between her and her past… turns out, this was not the case. When her daughter was born, it was like the childhood trauma bus hit her going full speed. She was a hot mess. All the years of repressed emotions were catching up with her. She was ashamed by how she was feeling. She thought it made her a horrible mother. All by the grace of God, it’s been like a beautiful metamorphosis. She has been on a journey of self rediscovery, embracing love for herself and others and developing a deeper connection to her Creator. Emily currently lives in New Brunswick with her husband and best friend, Brent and their two beautiful babies. Together they are breaking generational curses and creating a limitless life.
