Long before Buzz ever visited Kalalau, he had heard stories about Kalalau Valley and Spiritual Pizza. Once upon a time, Buzz met a guy who was marrying a rich guy’s daughter. They were going to have a Spiritual Pizza wedding in Kalalau Valley. That guy had visited Kalalau once before and only stayed for a few days. “What’s so spiritual about pizza?” that’s what Buzz wanted to know.
Buzz thought Spiritual Pizza had to be about the experience and not the pizza. Well, it was mostly about the experience for sure, as some of the following stories will tell. But spiritual is not always sweetness and light. Sometimes spiritual is dark too.
The very first Spiritual Pizza experience Buzz ever had happened on the same night Ric choked Brenna. It sure was memorable. Several years after that event, Buzz would use it as a place marker. “When did we first meet?” “Oh, that was the night Ric choked Brenna,” says Buzz. “Oh yeah,” says Larry, “that was my birthday too!”
This story is the most controversial story among the Outlaws. After Buzz circulated the story among them, several people told Buzz that he was too hard on Ric. Others said he was too soft. Larry said Buzz had nailed Ric. Larry also told Buzz his side of the story and then Brenna told Buzz her version of the story. And neither of their stories have matching details. Except for one thing. They both agree Ric coked Brenna.
So let’s now join the party on the bluff and see if we can figure this out.
