When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Her early years focused on photography of all mediums, shooting for local bands, Houston music festivals, local publications, weddings, and any and all special events. Eventually she transitioned to portraiture and opened her own private photography studio. In 2016, she graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a Bachelors degree in English Literature and a concentration in Creative Writing. Wanting to align her passions for visual and written storytelling, Sarah enrolled in a filmmaking course at Houston Community College. Production Management was the sole class she completed and it is what propelled her into the film industry in Houston. She has since worked on a number of local film sets and projects. Most notably as a First Assistant Director, Producer, Actor, and a first-time Writer and Director. Her debut Narrative Short Film was also selected as a finalist in the 2023 HCAS CineSpace competition, where a total of eleven finalists were chosen out of 400 submissions worldwide. Sarah thanks the film community for taking her under their wing and hopes to continue to tell monumental stories of life.
