Generous handouts were given to businesses in countries like the UK and Canada over the course of this pandemic, and they needed to be there for our industries to survive. But with economies starting to open up, danger has been coming up with subsidies beginning to wind back.
While some companies remain to be in a strong financial position despite the pandemic, there are a number that have had to rely on subsidies for financial stability. And now that governments are slowly cutting on support for businesses, only those able to stay on top of their numbers and watch over their financial fitness can quickly pivot to make changes so that their businesses adapt.
Financial literacy and getting entrepreneurs to strengthen their financial acumen will ultimately lead to sound business decisions, especially when coming up with strategies through these tough times. To be accountable for the financial results of your business, you have to KNOW YOUR NUMBERS.
That doesn't mean you have to do the bookkeeping or accounting yourself, you can definitely bring in outside help for this. All it takes to build a great financial foundation is to orient yourself with what your bookkeeper deals with and learn how to ask questions. When you don't understand specific details, start by asking open-ended ones which can then help lead you to ask more specific questions.
Whether you want to seek the help of a financial coach or not, it's ON YOU as a business owner and leader to build on your financial acumen and consistently look after your company's financial fitness. While finance may not necessarily be your strong suit, small improvements lead to significant outcomes!
