I have a 10-minute powerful pause meditation that is on the mindful mixtape. If you want me to send that to you, text the words "meditatenow" to 44222 and I'll send that over to you now.

What do you do when you are stuck in a creative rut and feel blocked?

As creatives and artists, we often find these moments in our lives where we are full of inspiration and ideas that scream for our attention. It's almost as if we are compelled to create. There have been times in my life that I am so cold to create something that I literally have to stop everything to get the idea out.

It's like this force that comes over for me. Other times I feel uninspired and unmotivated to create anything.

This is where the pause button comes in.

I have found that:

  • If I force things and try and make the muse appear, my projects feel off and forced.

  • I have learned that by pausing on the project to gain some perspective actually serves the project in the long run.

I personally, like to take walks, get outside and connect with nature. I have the luxury of a flexible schedule that allows me to do so and I happen to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Colorado.

BUT, I have deadlines too and sometimes I can't break away for a few hours.

You can pause for only10 minutes and it can be so helpful.

Now, when I say a 10-minute break, I mean really break!

Walk away from the project and pause.

I'm a fan of meditation moments during my day to connect with myself and then I can come back to the project feeling refreshed instead of depleted.

I know you have 10 minutes in your day to pause.

Your creative projects will thank you for it.

For those of you who are saying "but Alyson, I'm not working on creative projects" The pause button can work for you as well. Chances are something is going on in your work or personal life that makes you feel a bit challenged or uninspired, you too can rock the pause button, take a moment to recenter and come back to the mix.

That's one of the things that works for me.

How do you like to pause? What are some of your favorite ways to deal with creative blocks?
