One of the great features of being human is that we can feel for others. It’s called empathy and it is a great and needed quality for it gives us the capacity to feel another’s feelings, thoughts and attitudes vicariously. It is deeper than sympathy. You see empathy takes me into the world of the other person who I may completely disagree with on a range of issues. It allows me to listen and thus understand where they are coming from and why. It moves me toward, not away from certain people. Imagine if everyone in your family, city, church, state and country practiced empathy. What a great world that would be.
