Immigration is a bumpy road, especially for couples trying to navigate through it together. But one thing’s for sure: you shouldn’t let it consume you and take over your relationship, so don’t let your relationship take the backseat. In this week’s episode, Megan welcomes the first real-life couple who she has helped navigate love and immigration.

Meet Jorge and Kali. Their immigration story has a happy ending, and they’re sharing all their tips and tricks in this week’s episode. First, they start off by telling us where it all started for them, how they met, and how they fell in love. Then, they proceed to talk about the rocky path to getting that US visa. They reflect on the many challenges they’ve had to overcome along the way, pointing out the importance of patience. If you want your immigration process to go as smoothly as possible for you and your significant other, you need to be open and flexible with each other. After all, you need to remember that you’re on the same team - as you go through this together, it can make your relationship stronger than ever.

Episode Highlights:

  • Discussing DACA
  • Starting the immigration journey
  • Adjusting to the immigration process
  • The importance of patience
  • Advice for couples going through immigration
  • What is the immigration interview like?

Quotes:

“Being under DACA, you're grateful for what you have, but at the same time, you're kind of ashamed a little bit. You don't want to tell people.”

“That's one thing that we tell anybody that we know that's going to be going through this - we tell them to pick a good lawyer, somebody who is going to be open and honest with you.”

“Be open, be flexible, and be patient, because it's a very long ride.”

“When you start at the beginning of the process, I think it's key to remember that you're on the same team.”

“Don't let your relationship take the backseat.”
