Do you find yourself trying to convince students that reading is fun? Do they groan out loud when it’s time for independent reading?

Join me today as I talk about how I built a culture of reading in my classroom, which in turn has fostered a love of reading in my students.

I’ll walk you through how I set up my classroom library as well as the mistakes I made when I initially set my library up. I’ll discuss the different ways I approach book talks and first chapter Fridays. Hint it goes way beyond just me reading to my students! We’ll also chat about the importance of students choosing their own books. And I’ll tell you the most controversial thing I do with my students regarding their reading and how very necessary it is!

If you are ready to help shift your students' view of reading from feeling like a chore to something they want to do press play and let’s go!

What you will learn in this episode:

  • How to set up a classroom library that your students will rave about
  • A twist on how you can approach book talks
  • The importance of students choosing their own books
  • Ideas for first chapter Friday’s that go beyond reading the chapter
  • The most controversial things I do with students regarding their reading
