Listen as my guest, Angelique Ambers and host Latrese Cherry explain Angelique’s book "Lessons Taught By Daddy" and the issues that arise when strong father features aren't present in our lives. Angelique Ambers is a poet and writer who lives in Illinois. While she has been writing poetry for many years she recently started performing her work as a spoken word artist in the Chicago area in 2019. Additionally, she was the host for Hot Sauce Poetry which is an inspirational open mic in Chicago, earning her a 2020 nomination for a National Spoken Word Award in the category of “Best Host”. “Lessons Taught by Daddy” is the first collection of poems that Ambers has published. However, she has been featured in other collections such as the She Will Speak Series: Gender Based Violence Anthology which included two of her poems “Rotting” and “Revival”. She will always write because in the words of Maya Angelou “there is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” In sharing her experiences, unpacking trauma, reflecting on healing, and discussing heavy issues like domestic violence, discrimination, and depression Angelique Ambers hopes to teach valuable lessons and encourage others.
