After suffering battle wounds, he shifted to the Intelligence Corps where he rose through the ranks to serve in key positions in the field reconnaissance, West Bank and General Staff divisions. Following his retirement as a Brigadier General in the Israeli Defense Forces, Sofrin was appointed Intelligence Directorate Head of the national Mossad secret service, where he focused on counter-terror operations against Iran, its Hezbollah proxy and other enemies of the state.
