In This Episode:

  • Today we talk with Janie Dickens who is the founder and CEO of Healing Green Farms. A seed-to-bottle CBD company.
  • Janie’s background is in education and consulting for children with special needs. Janie was introduced to CBD products years ago while searching for an alternative to prescription medication for her young daughter’s anxiety.
  • In her work with special needs children, she has seen the potential of the product for helping in a variety of contexts. Because she has always felt a strong connection to her farming roots, becoming a hemp grower on her family farm (she’s a third-generation owner) is the perfect synthesis of all that’s she’s interested in, both personally and professionally!
  • In 2018 the farm bill passed which allowed everyone to grow CBD, Janie had land and it was recommended that she grow hemp and she started to do her research. She decided to grow in her greenhouse.
  • Hemp absorbs everything from the environment, it acts like a sponge and soaks up toxins. That's why they wanted to plant in the greenhouse and not in the ground to control the quality of the product.
  • The law in North Carolina says that hemp needs to be less than 0.3% of THC, which is the chemical that makes marijuana.
  • Janie talks about life on the farm, how they care for their plants, play them music, give them Reiki, etc.
  • Janie shares a story about people breaking into her greenhouse and stealing from her. They think she is doing something illegal so she won't do anything, but that's not true.
  • They grow more than just hemp at Healing Green Farms, including roses, and blueberries.
  • We talk about farm Joe and how he came to help at the farm.
