Doc Free is a rapper, DJ and FILA Podcast host who has played a pivotal role in the development of the Tulsa hip-hop scene over the past 10 years. He is a member of the Oilhouse collective and was among the first artists in Tulsa to perform at venues like Soundpony. Doc is a member of Clean Hands and is the host and co-founder of Lessons in Fresh, a monthly party that celebrates the 4 elements of hip-hop. He currently has weekly DJ residencies at Heirloom Rustic Ales and Cellar Dweller.
In this special episode, Malimotives joins Ali Shaw to dive into Doc Free’s origin story. Doc knows a lot about a lot of things, and they touch on everything from comic books to HBO’s Watchmen to the deepest mysteries of the universe. And of course, they discuss the evolution of Tulsa hip-hop over the past decade and the trajectory the scene is currently on with #FireInLittleAfrica.
