Chris Combs is a guitarist, composer and entrepreneur who has been a staple in the Tulsa music scene for the past two decades. Chris was a member of Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, a legendary band that achieved significant success locally and nationally in the early 2000s. His current band COMBSY is known as some of Tulsa’s best musicians and for our #FireFridays series they are playing with a different FILA artist every Friday night until the end of the year at Mercury Lounge.
In this episode, Doc and Ali go deep with Chris on the history of Tulsa music and how he came to fall in love with the Tulsa hip-hop scene. They discuss the 2011 Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey album ‘Race Riot Suite’ and what inspired Chris to lead that production. And, they talk about #FireFridays and the legacy of diversity and integration in Tulsa music that has been present through the years even while the rest of the city has been deeply segregated.
