In this BONUS episode we speak to Caroline MacManus, a woman with over 20 years experience working in high performance sport. Caroline is currently a Physiologist and Senior Performance Scientist at High Performance Sport New Zealand, working with their elite rowing teams.
In the interview we talk about working in a male dominated environment, building trust and relationships with athletes and coaches and advice she would give to aspiring practitioners looking to go down a similar route. We also touch on sport science elements specific to the female athletes she works with, such as the menstrual cycle, menstrual cycle education and athletes returning from pregnancy mid-career.
We cover Caroline's own journey to where she is today, why the menstrual cycle can be an awkward topic to approach and why male practitioners play an equally important role in breaking down the taboo as female ones.
