On the first official day of school in Ohio, there was a teachers strike in the largest school district for three days. What were their demands? Higher pay, better working conditions, and providing elementary school students with PE and arts classes for amongst other issues. While they were fighting for the basic essentials, where was the public outrage and protest? In this episode, Dr. Lopez explains how the American Rescue Plan could have intentionally focused on the retention and meeting the needs of teachers, as well as those needs to be held accountable for valuing our teachers.
