She is the co-founder of Soho Parenting, the first parenting/psychotherapy center in New York City. Lisa has her BA from Vassar College and her Master’s in Developmental Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Lisa is trained in EMDR, Life Force Yoga for therapists, and is a certified IFS therapist. She is the author of two books, A Mothers’ Circle and Internal Family Systems Therapy with Children. She lives in New York City with her husband and has two adult daughters and four grandchildren. I invited Lisa on the show after reading her book “Internal Family Systems With Children.” Parenting is so hard, and the Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a great framework for parents and children alike to make sense of the complexity of the human condition. Not only is it a great book on the topic of IFS and children, but it contains the best explanations of the IFS model I have found in any IFS books. In this episode we cover: What is IFS What IFS teaches us On parents being Parts activated On body awareness On self-awareness & presence On the importance of repair On self-compassion On the inner critic On childhood sexual abuse On the complexity of the human condition On the value of curiosity The incredible challenges of parenting Hope you enjoy! Today's guest on the 1000 Days Sober Podcast is Valerie Vazquez. Valerie is an ordained energy healer and minister living on a beautiful farm in Hawaii. Passionate about holistic wellness and spiritual growth, Valerie combines her deep connection to nature with her healing practices. Alongside her daughter, she co-hosts the podcast "Spiralling Together: A Mother-Daughter Healing Journey," where they share their insights and experiences on the path to healing and self-discovery. I invited Valerie on the show after seeing her going deep with her 22-year-old daughter Chloe on their podcast. It’s unusual to find a mother-daughter partnership talking so openly about their relationship in public. Valerie was also alcohol reliant at one time, and I was interested in her viewpoint on parenting unconsciously versus consciously. Hope you enjoy!
