EP89: Managing mindset during a weight loss journey
I am joined today by a very special guest who not only lives in my home town of Braintree, but is the consultant who has helped my mum on her weight loss journey; Matt Hughes.
You may remember a few episodes ago that my mum shared her journey on the WLW podcast, and a lot of her success is attributed to the Slimming World Group she is part of. Matt is the consultant running her group and has a story of his own to share.
During today's show, Matt talks openly about his struggles with being overweight and some of the tragic circumstances he faced that made his journey so difficult. We talk about how grief, stress and overwhelming emotions can contribute to the pressure of trying to lose weight. Matt also shares how he would seek comfort in eating to dull the pain he was experiencing during particularly hard moments.
As a consultant, Matt shares an interesting perspective of how it can be extremely hard to balance the physical side of weight loss with the much needed mindset work in order to achieve long term success and feel genuinely happy. He offers ways in which he has found success and the advice he gives to people in his group.
