Jail House Pets Kept by Non-Serial Killers, Teenage Signs of Trouble Ahead from Vonda Pelto, Ph.D. on Thunderstruck Radio with host Sancho Jones. Vonda, who spent over 3 years counseling and babysitting serial killer and other high profile inmates to keep them from harming themselves at Los Angeles Men's Central Jail, tells about non-serial killer inmates having pet rats or cockroaches to keep them company during the lonely hours. This has been mentioned throughout history and doesn't seem too out of line, but Vonda doesn't think serial killer types might have such a proclivity, but who knows. She also talks about certain signs in teenagers that may point to severe trouble; bed wetting at 15 years of age, abusing animals and other signs are mentioned. Her book, Without Remorse: The Story of the Woman Who Kept Los Angeles' Serial Killers Alive, is a scary look at her dealings with men like Hillside Strangler Kenneth Bianchi, Freeway Killer William Bonin, and others. Her life and personality were completely changed by this job and she has said that she probably wouldn't have taken the job based on what she knows now about it's affect on her.
