Host: Thee-O
Guest DJ Mix: Torin (Perfecto Digital / Giant / Vanguard)

"I believe in “remixing on the fly” wholeheartedly and in the name of The Streets, I will continue to “Push Things Forward.” - Torin

I have been a fan of ableton ever since I saw version 1.0 at NAM many years ago. I just fell in love with it really. I felt like the company understood me. As if they were designing a piece of software based on how I think when I’m on stage. At this point it dawned on me that I was never a DJ. I was a performer. I only DJ’d because it was the logical thing to do when you make music of our nature. But ableton came along and re-wrote the rules for me. I felt like a new world opened up…A world I called “remixing on the fly”.

The bottom line is this…I respect good DJs…Hell, I even like to DJ from time to time myself. For instance, I wouldn’t even think about bringing my laptop, controller etc to a party in the desert. I’d much rather replace burned CDs than a laptop and Lemur. I’m sure you’d agree. But none the less, I’m just not a DJ. I am a performer. I work very hard to make music that I believe in and equally as hard in editing tunes to fit my style. I also work very hard to come up with new ways to control my music in the live setting. This is what sets me apart from many other acts I believe. Not only do I play tunes that only I have, but I make effects of my own as well. Fuck, anyone can turn on the effects built into a DJM-800. I’m not gonna lie, I still use them as well. I love the delay effects you can do with a DJM-800. But at the end of the day, much of what I make I never give away to other DJs. I don’t subscribe solely to the formula of: “Make tracks, sell them to label, get them on beatport, then play them for crowd”. I’m not saying that this formula is flawed in ANY way. It’s been very successful for MANY acts out these days. It’s just not entirely for me. Sure, I will sell tunes on beatport still. These days, a track is like a flyer. But I will not just stop there and hope for the best. Visit Torin online at www.torin.nu.
