Cassandra is a cartoonist, illustrator and author based in Montreal, but originally from Romania. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from The Université du Québec à Montréal. She’s also the creator of Cassandra Comics, a webcomic series about her daily life including curly hair, relationships, expectations and reality. Cassandra has completed work for Tapas, Uniqlo, Simon & Schuster, Ohh Deer, Mattel, and Les editions les Malins. Her new graphic novel is The New Girl from Scholastic.

Inspired by Cassandra’s own immigration experience The New Girl is the story of Lia and her family who board a flight across the Atlantic, leaving behind family, friends, and Romania — the only home Lia has ever known. Now Lia is thrust into a world where everything is different: her home, her language, and even her body. With so many changes happening at once, Lia struggles with schoolwork, has trouble communicating with classmates, and has no idea how to manage her unpleasant periods. Will she ever feel like herself again?
